Fourth Annual PFD Education Raffle Drawing
Wednesday, January 25, 2023 (Juneau, AK) – Today, the fourth annual drawing of the PFD Education Raffle was held at the Harborview Elementary School Library in Juneau. Governor Mike Dunleavy, Department of Revenue Commissioner Adam Crum, and Department of Education & Early Development Commissioner Heidi Teshner drew four winners from the 8,740 entries.
“Thank you to all Alaskans that contributed to the Education Raffle this year and, in the years, past,” said Governor Dunleavy. “This year more than $437,000 will go toward providing educational opportunities for our children. I am inspired to see Alaskans come together to support our children’s educational futures.”
House Bill 213 established the PFD Education Raffle in 2018, allowing Alaskans to donate money from their PFD to public education in $100 increments per entry. In the first year of existence the Education Raffle had 8,698 contributions totaling $869,800. In its second year, the Raffle had 9,833 entries totaling $983,300. In the third year, the raffle had 8,834 entries totaling $883,400.
“I am grateful for the support Alaskans are giving the PFD Education Raffle and the Education Endowment Fund,” said Senator Click Bishop, the original sponsor of the legislation creating the raffle and fund. “Four lucky souls have won cash prizes today and countless young, future Alaskans win as we take another step to invest in their education.”
As prescribed by law, 50% of the fund balance is allocated to supplemental education grants, 25% is allocated to the Education Endowment Fund, and 25% is allocated to the raffle fund. Of the raffle fund, first prize is 8% of the raffle fund; second prize is 4%; third prize is 2%; fourth prize is 1%; and the remaining 85% of the raffle fund will grow the fund for future year prize money.
“In Alaska we appreciate and cherish our resources. The PFD, as a product of oil and investment resources, is being utilized through this program to invest in our most important resource - our children’s future” said Commissioner Adam Crum, Alaska Department of Revenue.
