Department of Revenue: Criminal Investigations Unit

Mission Statement

The Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU) enforces Department of Revenue’s criminal laws and regulations through investigation, public education, and use of legal process.

CIU Vision

CIU provides timely and accurate investigations to the divisions we support. We continually strive for better, more efficient processes while maintaining high ethical and performance standards. This is achieved by information sharing and encouraging training and skill development to enhance our effectiveness in proactive law enforcement.

ID Fraud Alert

Due to an uptick in identity fraud cases, we recommend anyone with compromised Personally Identifiable Information (such as Social Security Number, Date of Birth, or Driver’s License number) to immediately report identity fraud to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The FTC has a designated identity theft website that offers step-by-step instructions to assist with identity fraud reporting and recovery as appropriate.
